Steve's Birthday

This is what happens when two miata-owning, Scottish-heritaged Steve's enter the same airspace. Thanks to Curtis and Aliya for taking the photos. Click on the image below for more...

Important Reading

After getting caught up in one of many disturbing nights of reading pseudo-intellectual anti-Semitic hate in Usenet forums, I sought and found some light in the darkness. (For the record, I started my online journey this evening by trying to read about the terrible earthquake in Iran and naturally stumbled upon a ridiculous number of wildly tangential, bigoted posts about Zionist conspiracies and the omnipresent evils of "The Jews.") Here are a couple of links to excellent articles about "the new" anti-Semitism on the Left and its impact in our current world. If you have some time, these are both well worth the read...

Click here for a 2002 article from Mother Jones Magazine about anti-Semitism on the campus of San Francisco State. Although somewhat dated, it remains relevant.

Click here for Miriam Greenspan's cogent, in-depth, December 2003 essay that delves into topics presented by Phyllis Chesler in her book, "The New Anti-Semitism." This is one of the most sane and intelligent articles on the subject that I have read.

Magnetic Poetry

Seasons Greetings everyone. After a holiday dinner of saag paneer and beer, my mom created this magnetic poetry gem.

and, on a lighter note, here is 3/4 of our December 25th pajama party.

Mexico

>Last week we returned from a 9-day trip to the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico. We took Steve's mom up on her offer to let us use an extra timeshare week of hers (thanks Kryste and Reg!) and stayed in a nicely-equiped condo in Cancun. Just as we expected, Cancun was the Las Vegas of Mexico. The hotel zone is packed with every major resort imaginable and is filled with restaurant chains such as Planet Hollywood, Margaritaville, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. Upon arriving, we were looking at each other with concerned expressions of, "oh my God, what are we doing here?" It is definitely beautiful though (once you find access to the beach) and is a convenient launching pad to a myriad of surrounding destinations.
